Diplomatic activities

The documents presented in this chapter are letters concerning negotiations of visits to rulers, appointments to diplomatic service or discharges from the latter.  A separate group consists of diplomatic passports issued to Marcjan Michał Ogiński, Michał Kleofas Ogiński and his wife Maria de Néri: those of Great Britain, France, the Kingdom of Prussia, the Russian Empire, the Holy Roman Empire.  Among them, one is of particular interest: a passport issued at the time of the Uprising of 1794 by the President of Vilnius, Antoni Tyzenhaus to “citizen, member of the Lithuanian Council”, Michał Kleofas Ogiński, at the time departing for Sokolów. The chronological range of the documents is 1740-1811.
